Bio

Trumpeter Jason Colby has been steadily rising through the ranks of who’s who in the jazz and commercial music scene since he set his sights on a music career at the young age of 15. Jason now finds himself in very high demand at home in New York City and abroad.

Jason hails originally from Southern California, by way of Las Vegas, Nevada and now resides in Brooklyn, New York. Jason spent 8 years in Sin City and performed in almost every showroom on the strip with the likes of Tony Bennett, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Don Rickles, and Wayne Newton. While there he also honed his craft with the big bands of Don Menza, Jimmy Wilkens, and Stan Mark and frequently backed Joe Williams and Marlena Shaw. He even spent several seasons with the Las Vegas Philharmonic.

In 2001, Jason made the move to New York allowing him the opportunity to perform in the most musically diverse environments one can imagine. Since his move to New York, he has performed or recorded with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, Spoon, Peabo Bryson, Paul Anka, and Deborah Gibson, performed on and off Broadway and has been very deeply involved in the Haitian and world music scenes. In the last several years he has been fortunate to have been featured on more than 50 recordings. All the while continuing to further explore his own creative projects in the jazz, world, and electronic music scenes. He can be heard performing regularly around the city with Ikebe Shakedown and The Breakdown Brass Band, and with his own groups, The New Breuckelen Quartet and Keep Your Soul Together. He is also a regular touring member of the famous Artie Shaw Orchestra.

Jason holds a Bachelor of Music from The University of Nevada Las Vegas and a Master of Music from The Conservatory of Music, SUNY Purchase.
